OCFC Ralph E. Tignor
| A/1C "Rhet" Tignor joined Echo Flt, a B-47 crew chief at MacDill and Bunker Hill. Hmm, that rhymes. On rotation to Torrejon, he left for OCS, "leaving heel-marks on the ramp." After OCS, Lt Tignor went to Chanute AFB, IL for Acft Maint Off Crs and stayed on as an instructor. '64 to '67 was spent in Panama with the 605the Air Commando Sq; Rhet was then assigned to Langley (37TAS) as Materiel Officer (Lots of TDY). He moved to Supply in Hq TAC, made major and moved back to maintenance. "Spent '73-4 in Vietnam as an advisor (fun working with the Army)...first half at Binh Thuy (IV Corps)...second half at Phu Cat (II Corps)," Rhet writes. "...returned to TAC Hq, selected for O-5, finished grad school and retired as a major before putting the silver leaves on. I had a great 20 years in the AF...got married, educated, traveled, great jobs." Retired w/Bronze Star, 2MSM, VNAF stuff. Five years after retiring, Rhet open his own company (20 years). Three years ago, Rhet was elected to Hampton's City Council (pop. 146,000) "...pay...terrible, work... exciting." Rhet "captains" a 30-foot sailboat -- racing and cruising. He stays fit: bugs, er, runs 12-15 miles per week. He and Suzanne (wed in '63) have 3 kids and six grandkids. |
