OC Capt Martin K. Sorge

A/1C Martin Sorge joined Echo Flt in Sep '60; he moved to the "WheelHouse" in Dec as an Asst Personnel/Admin officer. Martin graduated fifteenth in our class and attended Personnel Sch at Greenville, MS en route to Castle AFB, CA. Lt Sorge received a compassionate transfer to Germany when he found his biological father was dying of cancer there. "I got there a week too late to see him," Martin writes. "...it turned into a 4-year stay ... (as) det comdr at the border with East Germany." and 2 years as Protocol officer in Weisbaden (USAFE Hq). From there, Martin bootstrapped at Omaha en route to McChord where he'd command the Hq Sq Sec (62ABGp). He served a SEA tour at Tan San Nhut (OIC, 1st Weather Group), "then to Hill AFB, UT and finally McGuire AFB, NJ," Martin recalls. "Once MAC got its hands on you it was hard to leave." He retired in '75. "Now I find myself in Chile...I followed my wife back to her home country...writing a book on OCS -- it's in my daughter's basement in the U.S."
