OCFC Christian McWilliams Jr.
| Aye! and who'd a thought, a Piper in 61-C? A/1C Chris McWilliams joined Delta Flt with extra baggage -- bagpipes -- which suited the Gentlemen-of-the-first-class just fine (as well as us 2nd classers). Chris joined the Army Reserves in '54 and switched to AF in '56 as an AC&W/SAGE type until OCS. Chris graduated in the top third of our class; Lt McWilliams headed for Keesler for Ground Electronic Off. Crs. He then served in Radar SQs at Opheim AFS, MT and Hutchinson AFS, KS. In '64, he attended SOS en route Thule AB, Greenland. Chris fared well at Thule but the Pipes did not. In zip humidity, wood cracks and splits - epoxy seemed to work, "but they never did sound quite the same afterwards," Chris reports. In '66, Capt McWilliams returned to Keesler for Comm Elect Staff Off Crs and then commanded 907 Radar Sq at Bucks Harbor, ME. In '69, he took command of 764 Radar Sq/St Albans AFS, VT. In 1972, he attended Spec Grnd Elec Off Crs at Lowry enroute Satellite Test Ctr (AFTAC), Sunnyvale, CA. Maj McWilliams retired in '76, w/2AFCM, 2GCM. He and wife, Jean, have 4 children and six grandchildren. |
