| "Larry" Martin enlisted in the AF, July 1960, and joined Delta Flt in Sep. In Dec, OC LtCol Martin took command of OCS 2nd Group. Graduating sixth in our class, Lt. Martin was assigned to 801st Air Div (SAC) Lockbourne AFB, OH. In 1962, Larry was assigned to USAF Hq Command and was discharged, 1st Lt, on completion of active duty requirement. After AF: "...based on my interest in foreign affairs and languages, I wanted to get overseas," Larry writes. "I got..to work (in) the private sector in West Africa (Guinea and Ivory Coast)...for about 5 years and returned to U.S...(joining) the foreign service. After training and desk service, I was assigned to the American Embassy Office in Bengahazi, Libya (1970-72), just after Qadhafi took over...later served tours in Kinshasa, Salisbury, Zimbabwe and Hong Kong." Larry retired in 1992 with almost 30 years as USG civilian and does much volunteer work -- moved to VA in 1996 where wife, Ellen, is a free-lance photographer and Larry gardens, bumbles in the workshop, walks the dogs, watches foreign affairs and has "... a very fulfilling life." Ellen and Larry have 1 son. |
