| Bob Legere joined the Navy, age 17, in 1954. He became an Aviation Electronics technician and served in a variety of fighter and attack squadrons and on the USS Randolph for a Mediterranean cruise in 1957. After getting out of the Navy and working for American Airlines, Bob joined the AF in 1959 as an A/2C and was assigned to Oxnard AFB. He joined OCS Coca Flt in September 1960. On graduation, Lt Legere stayed at Lackland as a BMTS training officer. In 1963 he went to Kessler AFB for Avionics school and was subsequently assigned to F-100’s at Cannon AFB. Launched into Bien Hoa with the 429th TFS 5 days after the Gulf of Tonkin incident (fabricated?). After returning to Cannon was assigned to an A&E Squadron at Ching Chuan Kang AB Taiwan. In 1967 while in Taiwan, Capt Legere made an inter-service transfer to the Army and was assigned to the 10th Aviation Group at Ft Benning, Ga. Next came the Signal Officers Advanced Career course at Ft Monmouth, NJ. From there, now Maj Legere was assigned to the 1st Aviation Brigade (4000 aircraft in 5 Groups, 17 Battalions and 115 Aviation Companies) RVN as the Brigade Avionics officer. After this tour in Vietnam, Bob entered the Defense Language Institute and then the ADP Staff Officers Course and was assigned to Computer Systems Command at Ft. Belvoir, VA. At this time the Army created the Program Manager for Army Tactical Data Systems (ARTADS) at Ft. Monmouth and Bob was assigned as one of the cadre officers. He worked for the next 5 years in research and development on the Tactical Fire Direction System (TACFIRE) overseeing the development of the systems Operating System. Bob retired in 1975, an Army major w/MSM, Bronze Star, AM, 2ARCOM and more. After retirement he spent 22 years in the Defense industry in support of the Army in various Project Manager positions helping the Army establish 5 different software support centers at Ft. Sill, OK, Ft. Monmouth, NJ, Ft. Leavenworth, KS and Orlando, FL. Bob was widowed with 5 children in 1993. They live everywhere; Rob, his wife Lori and their daughter in New Jersey; Theresa in Phoenix; Joseph in Pam Beach, Fl; Tony in Seattle; and his youngest Mark is in the Navy and he and his wife and son live in Kings Bay, Ga. In September of 2003 Bob remarried to a lovely transplant (30 years ago) from Australia, Margo. |
