OC Maj David I. Kali |
Dave at 2003 reunion |
| A/1C Dave Kali joined Coca Flt in Sep 1960. He was selected to command 1st Sq in Dec. OC Maj Kali graduated in the top fourth of our class and went off to Williams AFB, AZ for pilot tng and "...got married, then returned as an instructor," Dave writes. "We had two children...a girl ... a boy ...and left active duty...joined the Air Guard flying fighters...retired 1978, Lt Col...I practiced law, then began serving in many banking and business opportunities. "I became ill in 2001 to the point of being told that I had 3 days to live. Instead I returned to Hawaii where a change of climate, atmosphere, doctors, medicines, and teatment coupled with loving care, have contributed significantly to a slow but conservative improvement," Dave continues. "...I am looking forward to the reunion and will get on my training routine so I can make it. ...with much Aloha and Love." The long story of Dave Kali's trials and tribulations reads like a John Grisham novel. Bypasses, paralysis, impaired vision and loss of communicative faculties -- Dave attributes his cheating death to all the above but especially "...the unqualified love of family and understanding of close and good friends." Sadly, Dave lost his courageous battle on June 19, 2004 when he succumbed to a stroke. Click <here> for pictures from Dave's funeral. |
