SSgt Tom Howes joined Coca Flt as a radio tech. He started his AF career in 1955 at age 19. In Dec 1960, OC Maj Howes was selected as Wing Chairman, Board of Governors. He graduated third in our class and was sent to Keesler for Officer Electronics School. From there, it was on to Griffiss AFB, NY thru 1965. 1966-70, Capt. Howes was staff officer, Pacific GEEIA Region, Wheeler AFB, HI. From 1970 to 1972, he served on the faculty at Keesler AFB. Maj. Howes attended ACSC at Maxwell AFB, AL, 1972-73. From 1973 to 1976, he served at the Pentagon, OJCS J-6 and was selected for Lt Col in the Secondary Zone. From 1976-1978, Tom commanded the 485EIS at Griffith AFB, NY, then went to AWC at Maxwell, 1979-80. Tom served the So. Comm. Area and Engineering Installation Center at Tinker from 1980-1982 (promoted to Colonel in 1981). Col. Howes moved to Wheeler AFB, HI commanding the 1843 EIG from 1982 to 1985. Tom's last duty assignment was with Constant Watch Program (PACAF), he retired in 1987, Colonel w/31+years. After retirement, Tom stayed in the Comm field in Hawaii, Texas, and England. He's "Retired permanently to Hawaii ('97)," and he and Janete "enjoy family, traveling, photography, and sing in the church choir."
