A/1C "Tom" Edge was a clerk/typist at Dyess AFB, TX early on. In Sep 1960, he joined Bravo Flight. Tom had orders for pilot tng, but nasal surgery belayed that and in April 1960, Lt Edge was sent to Keesler for Ground Elect Sch and then duty with 25 Air Div. Three years after OCS, Tom reported for pilot tng at Webb AFB, TX. Next to Perrin (F-102 school) and Tyndall for F-106 transition. In 1966, Capt Edge's SOS slot was cancelled due to a SEA assignment. Instead he went to Nellis AFB, NV for Thud (F-105) transition. From Oct 1967 to Jun 1968, Tom flew with the 357 TFS in Takhli as Flight Ldr, IP, FCF Pilot, and Force Commander, logging 108 combat missions (100 over North Vietnam). In 1968, He was assigned to 12TFS (F-105) at Kadena AB, Okinawa but spent lots of time in Korea during the Pueblo crisis. In Nov 1970, it was back to F-106s at Hamilton AFB, CA. In 1972, Tom found himself again at Nellis, this time for "Wild Weasel" School en route Korat RTAFB, with the 17th as flight examiner, flight commander and sq exec. Tom flew 89 more combat missions, 44 over NVM. In 1973, Tom returned to Nellis with the 66th Wild Weasel Sq and served as F105 Ops Officer. From 1975-80, Tom was assigned to Bergstrom AFB, TX as 12AF/Stan Eval Flt Examiner. In Mar 1980, Tom took terminal leave for a job with Gates Learjet Corp. Retired Jun 1980, Major w/5DFC (valor), 14 AF, MSM and more.
May 1981, Tom left Gates Learjet, Wichita for St Edwards Univ, Austin, TX to study computer science. From 1984-95, he worked for Lockheed Missiles and Space Corp in Austin. In 1988, Tom married Kay George and in 1995 both retired. They like to travel and spend time with eight children (4, each) with 11 grandchildren. Tom is active in the local Episcopal Church. Tom is one of the CTS and is responsible for organizing, producing and herding the reunion. Muchos gracias, Tomas.
