Ann & Jim at 2003 reunion
|
| This is all Jim Deal's fault. His e-note on the 40th anniversary of our graduation started this whole reunion thing. Thanks, Jim. SSgt Deal's AF career began in Aug 1954, Col. Deal retired in 1989, over 34 years later. Jim started OCS just prior to his 27th birthday and finished fourth in our class. After OCS, Lt Deal attended Lowry's Avionic Maintenance Officer School. From 1961-66, he was assigned to Beale AFB, CA in that field on B-52G, KC-135A & Q, and SR-71 birds. From 1966-70, Jim was at March AFB, CA's 15AF Hq. Hq SAC beckoned in 1970 and Jim spent two years plus as Avionics Staff Officer. ACSC followed. 1973-4 was spent at Ubon RTAFB, Thailand ultimately as Sq Cmdr of 8th AMS. 1974-76 were spent at High Wycombe -- side trips to Malta, Cyprus, Hong Kong and lots of RAF bases in U.K. Jim went back to Offutt in 1976 as 55AMS/CC. From 1979-82 another tour in England -- RAF Fairford -- as CAMS commander and later Asst DSC/Maintenance. 1982-85 were served back at Offutt as 55SW Chief of Maintenance. 1985-88 were served in the UK again -- RAF Alconbury as MA and LG. Col Deal retired in 1989 w/LOM, 5 MSM, 2 AFCM and GCM with two clusters. In retirement, Jim worked advanced fighter systems for Navy and Air Force. He and Mary Ann enjoy theater, ballet and the symphony. Seattle offers it all! |
