| Less than 2 years after enlisting, A/2C "Doug" Cobb was selected for OCS. He performed so well in Alpha Flight that he was chosen Wing Ops & Training chief in Dec 1960. After OCS, Lt Cobb went to Keesler for a 39-week radar/radio tech training course. In 1962 & '63, Doug was assigned to Guthrie AFS, WV. He went to Atlas D school and was assigned to the 565 Strat Missile Sq at Warren AFB, WY in late 1963, followed by a short tour to Schilling AFB, KS (Atlas F program deactivated) and an assignment to Vanderberg AFB, CA with the Test Wing there. In 1966, he was assigned to Weisbaden AB, Germany. In 1969, he returned to Keesler for Staff C & E Officers Course. His combat tour was with MACV at Pleu Ku in 1972. From 1972 to '74, Doug was Chief of Maintenance, 24AD, Malmstrom AFB, MT. He commanded the 770 AC&W Sq. at Fort Meade, MD, 1974 - 76 and then moved to NSA until 1979. He returned to Keesler and retired Dec 31, 1980, a major, with Bronze Star, JSCM, MSM, 2 AFCM... Wife, Judy, passed away Jan 15, 1999. He has a son and a daughter and four grandchildren. Doug is working in computer services and enjoys golf, fishing, barbequing, photography and messing with computers. |
