Air Force OCS Class 61-C

We remember
Joseph S. Carano

OCFC Joseph S. Carano

Airman First Class "Joe" Carano entered OCS, September 26, 1960. His bellowing voice earned him the position of Alpha Flight Jock (morning exercise leader). We can still hear his command echoing in the hallways, "Position of exercise -- MOVE!" Word is that Joe was a devout Latter Day Saint. Didn't smoke or drink but did tolerate those of us who did. A Shavetale from an Alpha Flighter has it that during one of our Friday night free-for-alls, a certain fellow classmate spiked his Coke with a dash of Rum. He never even got it close to his nose before yelling, "What are you guys trying to do to me?!" 2ndLt Carano was assigned to Keesler AFB, MS upon graduation. I last saw Joe at Andersen AB, Guam in the early '70's. He looked great and was his usual outgoing self. Air Force records lists his passing as January 8, 1991.
