Shirley & Carl at 2003 reunion
Staff Sergeant Benedict joined Alpha Flight in September, 1960, coming from Columbus AFB, MS as a Bomb/Nav technician. Carl joined the Air Force in 1952, married Shirley in 1953 and after OCS, was assigned to Keesler for Communications Officer Course. In 1962, Lt Benedict was assigned to Ramstein AB, Germany and in 1965 to Scott AFB, IL with AFCC. In 1968 a tour to Moron, Spain, then to Lindsey AS, Germany with USAFE. In 1972, Major Benedict returned to Biloxi for Advance Communications training and was assigned to Offutt AFB, NE in 1973 with the 761st Aerospace Comm Gp. He retired in Aug 1976 (LtCol selectee). Carl and Shirley (wife of 49 years) live in Union, NE, not far from Offutt. They have three sons and three grandchildren. They have been active in civic and school affairs. The Benedict "farm" is on eight "quiet" acres. Carl says that he and Jack Arnold were a hit with OCS First Class, getting seating preference as -- Benedict/Arnold.
Carl and Shirley missed the 2005 reunion due to Carl's need for surgery on August 13. Shirley was looking forward to connecting with Silvestri's, as they went to comm school together at Keesler.
Sadly, Carl Benedict passed away on March 21, 2007 of sudden heart failure.
