Gail & Louie at 2003 reunion
"Louie" Baldoni joined us representing the Puerto Rico ANG. By his own admission, his English wasn't too good. He remembers addressing one of the Ladies of the First Class as "Madam" and she ripped into him, something about a "house of ill repute." After graduation, Lt Baldoni ended up at Reese for pilot training, then to F-102 school at Perrin. He then rejoined his Guard unit in San Juan flying the F-86H. In 1964, he transitioned to the F-104, flying the Starfighter for about 10 years when the unit received A-7Ds. Meanwhile, in 1965, Louie went to work for a regional carrier which merged with Eastern AL in 1973. He flew out of Miami, Houston and Atlanta; when Eastern shut down in 1991, this DC-9 Captain joined American International flying 727 Freighters until mandatory retirement in 1999. Louie's Guard experience covered 21 continuous year, both as enlisted and officer. Major Baldoni feels like he might have stayed with the Guard longer but the commuting between civilian and military jobs were taking their toll. He is now fully retired enjoying travel, music, fishing, painting, school and scale modeling. He lives in Georgia with his wife of many years, Gail, and his youngest son. They have cats and ducks, too.
